SASMO (Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad) Exam Preparation

Olympiad Success has established itself as a pioneer in the Olympiad exams preparation in a short duration of time. What is SASMO?

One of Asia's largest Math competitions held is SASMO (Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad). It is conducted for students from grades 1 to 12.

The examination aims to stretch the untapped thinking abilities of the student, bringing out the inner mathematician in them. Students’ participation in SASMO will help them improvise in school Mathematics, higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) & give exposure to International Olympiads from an early age. SASMO attempts to stimulate students’ interest in mathematical problem-solving in order to promote mathematical intuition, logic, creativity, reasoning and critical thinking.

SASMO exam is a 90 minutes test. Each level of the examination includes a different paper with 25 questions divided into two sections. The question papers are designed carefully which matches both school and Olympiad Maths levels.

Over 30,000 participants from 21+ countries & 100+ schools from Singapore take part in the SASMO examination every year.

How to participate in SASMO?

Students can participate in the examination individually as well through school.

Registration through School

A prospectus containing the registration forms is sent to all schools registered with SASMO. Registered schools conduct SASMO exams for the students enrolled. Schools are allowed to host SASMO 2022 either paper-based or online. The authorities have developed a set of rules and regulations to ensure that all the exams are monitored and invigilated in the most secure setup.

The following steps will help to apply through school for SASMO:

  • School sends every candidate an invitation letter to register.
  • The candidates then have to pay directly to school either using cash or EduSave.
  • Teachers can then download the registration form, fill in the student information and submit the completed form to [email protected]

Individual Registration

The mode of exam for students applying individually will be online. Desktop/Laptop with webcam is a must to appear for the exam. The students can register for the competition from the official portal. Link to the portal is: https://form.simcc.org/

The proper schedule of the examination is announced 1 week before the contest date.

    Grades 1-4 (Primary 1-4)
  • Arithmetic and Statistics
  • Geometry and Mensuration
  • Solving word problems using model method (or any other non-algebraic methods)

    Grades 5-6 (Primary 5-6)

Exam Pattern

  • The examination has a total of 25 questions.
    The examination is divided into two sections:
  • Section A - 15 MCQs
  • Section B - 10 Non-MCQ type questions
  • For Section A, every correct answer gets +2 points, and for wrong answers -1 points. For every unanswered question, 0 points will be awarded.
  • For Section B, every correct answer gets +4 points and the wrong/no answer gets 0 points.
  • The total score for the examination is 85 points (to avoid negative scores, each student will begin with 15 points).
  • The duration of the examination is 90 minutes.
  • SASMO is conducted in the Language(s) Bahasa, English & Chinese.

Exam Dates

  • The school can host SASMO between 22nd March 2022 to 8th April 2022.
  • For students registered individually, the exams are scheduled from 26th March to 27th March 2022.

How to prepare for SASMO?

For preparing for SASMO you must, first of all, get familiar with the competition rules and regulations. Students must be familiar with its difficulty level and syllabus.   • The top 40% of the candidates will receive an award certificate and a medal.
  • Others participants will receive e-certificates.
  • Other students who score a Perfect number will receive a Perfect Score Award, Gold Medal and RM200 cash each, up to a maximum of RM2,000 for all the perfect scorers.
  • In the rare event when there are more than 10 perfect scorers, the RM2,000 will be divided among all the Perfect Scorers.

    • Bronze Award - To next 20% of students
    • Honorable Mention - To next 10% of students
